About the event

Stanisława de Karłowska was born near Łowicz in 1876. Having begun her art training in Kraków, she continued her studies in Paris. In July 1897 she met the English artist Robert Bevan later of The Camden Town Group and five months later they were married in Warsaw. The couple settled in London and were both highly productive for the remainder of their lives. They were friends with many of the leading Post-Impressionist British artists of the time and Stanislawa was elected to The London Group (Robert was its first treasurer), the Camden Town Group’s successor in 1914. Her work can be seen in many public collections across the UK, including one in Southampton and two in the Tate.
