About the event
Artist, academic and FoSMAG Vice-Chair Deborah Birch presents November's illustrated talk, looking at Romany, Traveller and Gypsy subjects within Southampton City Art Gallery's Collection.
Drawing on her own Romany heritage connected with the New Forest and the wider Southern Romanichal community, Deborah brings a personal as well as critical perspective to these works.
She'll also discuss work by contemporary artists from the European Roma community, whose practices seek to rework these narratives from within.
