Join Paul Clarke for September's illustrated talk.

Time & Location

30 Sept 2026, 10:30 – 11:30

Southampton City Art Gallery, Civic Centre, Commercial Rd, Southampton SO14 7LY, UK

About the event

Southampton polymath Margery Clarke's pursuits over the years have created numerous ripples:

  • The Open Studios movement

  • Lowry's The Floating Bridge (in Southampton's collections)

  • Wider recognition for local artist Eric Meadus, photographer Crispin Eurich, ceramicist Lotte Glob, sculptor Suzie Marsh, and others

All these and more owe thanks to Margery's endeavours.

Her son, Paul Clarke, will discuss Margery's primary pursuit of painting, while revealing less-known aspects of her life: her background, early essays into art, toy designing, poetry, and human bridge-building.
