About the event
Charles Dickens was just as fascinated with other authors as we are of him. He was deeply affected by his 1841 visit to the home of Sir Walter Scott, where he viewed the last set of clothes Scott wore. Dickens also helped raise funds for the curatorship of Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford Upon Avon. This illustrated talk explores how the literary heritages with which Dickens engaged throughout his life shaped the way he wanted to be remembered.
Dr Emily Dunbar currently works as the Curator and Gallery Manager of the Young Gallery in Salisbury. Her roles in the heritage sector have included the Salisbury Museum, the Charles Dickens Museum, and Trusteeship of Wessex Museums. Emily holds a Master's in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester and a PhD (on Dickens) from Royal Holloway University.
