About the event

Brian Elwell is an artist who lives in Bath. He was a senior lecturer in fine at the Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities. He is currently the Gallery Directory for Burdall's Yard in Bath and runs the Riverside Studios at Swineford. His work is widely exhibited.

Brian made an intensive working tour of the Neolithic and industrial landmarks of the west Penwith landscape in 1992. A Cornish Sketchbook is a facsimile of the original pocket sketchbooks with ink and watercolour paintings he made during his trip. This talk will describe his experience, and consider associated aspects of art history and practice.

Watercolor of Botallack Mine shows two stone structures on a rocky coast. Waves crash against cliffs. Notes at bottom read "worked 1981, drawn 1992".
