About the event

FoSMAG is delighted to welcome Tomoko Sato, curator of the Mucha Foundation, to present an illustrated talk on the work of this celebrated 19th century artist.

Alphonse Mucha was born in Moravia in 1860 when the Czech lands were administered by Austria. He lived in Paris for some time and achieved fame for his distinctive Art Nouveau style but later returned to his homeland. He designed theatre sets, jewellery, carpets and wallpaper. When Czechoslovakia became independent, he was immensely proud of his homeland and designed banknotes, stamps and the coat of arms
